Dear Members,
It is an honour to serve as Chair of the Schubert Institute UK. I extend my thanks to our outgoing Chairman Dr Clive McClelland for his leadership over the last six years. I look forward to building on his work and guiding our Institute through the next stage of its development.
It is a pleasure to welcome several new Officers:
Dr Anne Hyland, Committee Member
Ceri Ngai, Membership Secretary
Sam Shortall, Social Media Officer
April Wu, Editor of The Schubertian
My term as Chair will prioritize (among other areas) SIUK’s digital presence and geographical reach. Our inaugural online events — from the 2020 Study Day to the ‘In Conversation’ with Vice-Presidents Susan Wollenberg and Susan Youens — were well attended and a means of bringing us together in unprecedented circumstances. I envisage further such events tailored to our diverse membership. These will run alongside in-person events, such as our collaboration with the Leeds Lieder Festival.
My vision will be driven by your aspirations for the future of the Schubert Institute. I invite you to participate in events, to contribute to The Schubertian, and to share ideas for potential initiatives. And do please encourage friends and colleagues to join our community (details here). It's always wonderful to welcome new members.
Thank you for your support of SIUK, and I look forward to collaborating in the years ahead.
Sincerely
Joe Davies
